SPOTON (GMS) automatically finds:
Pantone Goe Coated Colors
Pantone Goe Uncoated Colors
Munsell Glossy Colors
Color Group Colors
Fashion + Home Paper TPX Colors
Fashion + Home Cotton TCX Colors
inside your files and gives Versaworks the correct color values.
Exact color matching is dependent on the quality and gamut of the media ICC Profile being used. You are not going to magically print florescent green on matte paper, due to the gamut limitation of the media itself. But you will print the closest color match and brightest green possible on the matte media, because Versaworks was given the correct values for color.
Why Do I Need This?
The correct color values of Spot colors almost always get altered by application color space, exporting and importing, and printer drivers that convert between rgb/cmyk multiple times, causing colors to print wrong and muted.
But I can easily just edit the color in the original file.
You can try but many files are complex with lots of objects that take time and effort. You also can not edit a true spot color because you just playing with its dull process color which will insure that you will print muted colors.
SPOTON (GMS) gives you the ability to adjust (tweak) spot colors inside the file without editing the all the original pieces.
If you want to take advantage of the brightest colors your printer is capable of, you need to design with spot colors and print using SpotOn.
SpotOn (GMS) does not find PMS colors, as they have been replaced by the Pantone GOE system in 2007.
